Studying at the pre-university stage (preparatory faculty) is of great importance in the training of foreign students at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University. The Preparatory Faculty for foreign citizens has existed since 1973 at ZSMU. During this time, sufficient experience has been gained in training foreigners to continue their studies in the chosen specialty at the main faculties of the university.
It should be noted that professionally-oriented training in Medicine and Biology is an important component of the educational process at the pre-university stage of study at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University. During the period of its existence, more than 6,000 foreign citizens from 110 countries of the world studied at the faculty, most of them successfully work and hold high positions in the health care systems of different countries.
From the 2017-2018 academic year, studies at the ZSMU Preparatory Faculty are conducted in Ukrainian. The peculiarity of studying at the pre-university stage is that during the first 5-6 weeks students learn the Ukrainian Language, and starting from the 7th week general theoretical disciplines are introduced, i. e. the task of the pre-university stage is to prepare a foreign student to study general theoretical disciplines in Ukrainian and prevent any possible difficulties during the first year studies in the chosen specialty. The solution of this problem is associated primarily with the development of deeper interdisciplinary links, coordination between the teacher of the Ukrainian Language and the teacher of Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics or Computer Science.
Our Language Training Center has good material and technical equipment. There are highly qualified lecturers who have modern methods of teaching foreign languages. In our work we use innovative technologies and interactive teaching methods. Our lecturers create tutorials with audio-video support, computer training programs, etc.
