The Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens of the Department of Slavic Philology of Kyiv National Linguistic University was established in 1979. The annual number of foreign students is over 100. Students from the People's Republic of China, Korea, Japan, the countries of Western Europe and the Middle East, Turkey, the USA and others study at the department. For 40 years of its work, the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens of the Department of Slavic Philology has prepared more than 3000 foreign students. Graduates of the KNLU Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens have shown themselves in the fields of philology, diplomacy, economics, medicine, architecture, painting, theater and film directing. The teachers of the department are highly qualified specialists and have extensive experience in teaching foreign students. The task of the preparatory department for foreign citizens is to teach foreign citizens Russian (Ukrainian) language, to prepare them for admission to the KNLU and other higher education institutions of Ukraine. Admission to study at the preparatory department for foreign students is carried out on the basis of an individual official invitation issued by the KNLU. Training at the preparatory department is carried out under a contract signed by a foreigner with an educational institution. Form of education at the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens - full-time, a course of study is 10 months (from September 1 to June 30 with a break for New Year's winter holidays). In case of successful completion of the preparatory department for foreign citizens, the students receive a certificate of completion of the Preparatory Department, for foreigners and persons without citizenship’s admission to Kyiv National Linguistic University. During the academic year, students of the Preparatory Department study the Russian Language, the Russian Literature, the Ukrainian Language, the History of Ukraine, Economic and Social Geography of the World, the Phonetics of the Russian Language or Western European language (English / German). Studying continues beyond the classroom. Students are offered to visit excursions around Kiev and historical places of Ukraine museums, theaters, exhibition halls which contribute to the effective mastering of the Russian (Ukrainian) language. Classes for students are carried out in a new educational and laboratory building. A library, reading rooms, computer classes, phonoclassrooms, a sports complex, a dining room, a cafe and a student club are at students` disposal. Students are provided with all the necessary educational literature. The academic group consists of 12 people, group members are international.
