Preparatory Department for Foreigners and Stateless Persons is a structural unit of the Department for International Students of West Ukrainian National University and was created to prepare foreign citizens and stateless persons for entry into higher education institutions of Ukraine.
Directions and objectives of activities:
- Organisational support for foreigners who apply to the University;
- Providing housing in WUNU dormitories;
- Help in setting up initial medical examinations and subsequent medical services provided for WUNU students;
- Supervision over the financial, academic and everyday relationships between Preparatory Department and the University;
- Ensuring comfortable living and studying conditions for the students;
- Assistance in reimbursement of unused funds for tuition and accommodation in case of expulsion of a foreign citizen from among the students of the University;
- Organization and monitoring of the studies in the Preparatory Department;
- Consultations on passport and migration issues, as well as registration issues for Preparatory Department students (within the competence and authority of the department);
- Collection and organisation of paperwork necessary for the authentication and recognition of foreign educational documents;
- Maintaining contacts with law enforcement agencies, border services, embassies and consulates of Ukraine abroad;
- Providing aides and interpretation in dealing with courts and law enforcement agencies;
- Adaptation of the Preparatory Department students to university and everyday life in Ukraine;
- Creating a unified democratic international student environment:
- Familiarization of students with the culture and customs of Ukraine.
The main tasks of the Preparatory Department for Foreigners are
- teach students Ukrainian / English sufficiently enough for them to study in the first and subsequent years of their higher education careers in Ukraine. All the while, the accumulation of a minimal vocabulary by the student is crucial, so that they are capable of navigating everyday conversations and professional topics in their chosen field with ease.
- systemise the knowledge that students have acquired during their school studies in their home country and ensure that it meets the requirements of the Ukrainian education system
- provide a safe space for socio-cultural, psychological and pedagogical adaptation of foreigners.
Studies
Studies are carried on the basis of curricula for preparing foreign citizens to enter higher education institutions developed by the Academic Board of WUNU.
